Naivas Clears Store Closure allegations by Nairobi MCAs

Kenya’s leading retailer, Naivas Supermarket, has dismissed claims by Mountain View MCA and Nairobi City County Assembly Health Committee Chairperson Maurice Ochieng regarding the alleged sale of expired products and the supposed closure of Nairobi branches by authorities.

In a statement to the Press, Naivas clarified that there are no expired products on their shelves as they maintain stringent internal Control and stock control as they comply with the set regulations.

“There are NO expired products that have been found on our shelves, and we maintain stringent internal quality control and stock management systems across all our branches to ensure product safety and compliance with health regulations,” they stated.

They added that none of their branches has been closed by the health regulators as they are compliant with all national and county-level standards set by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), the Ministry of Health, and relevant bodies.

The retailer added that they would be taking legal action against the legislator, as they alleged that they were seeking a bribe.

“The circulating claims are entirely false, misleading, and potentially harmful, not just to our brand but to our valued customers who rely on us for daily essentials,” they said.

“Naivas is taking legal advice regarding a formal action against the individuals or organizations that are spreading misinformation regarding Naivas. We have a very strict anti-bribery and corruption policy and will not submit to extortionary tactics,” they added.

The statement by Naivas comes after the Nairobi Health Committee Chair claimed that their Moi Avenue branch had been closed.

The MCA further alleged that the store had been closed due to health risks, which has all been dismissed by the retailer.
