Kindiki Says Sh3.4bn Thika–Magumu Mau Mau Road Is on Schedule

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said construction of the KSh3.4 billion Thika–Magumu Mau Mau road linking Kiambu and Nyandarua counties is progressing according to schedule, with 31 kilometres completed out of the 67-kilometre stretch.

Kindiki made the remarks on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, during an inspection of national government development projects in Gatundu North Constituency, Kiambu County, where he directed supervisory teams to ensure the road is completed on time and meets the required quality standards.

The Deputy President said the road forms part of the government’s wider plan to upgrade 1,285 kilometres of roads across Kiambu County at a projected cost of KSh152 billion.

He said the project would improve connectivity between the two counties, ease movement of people and goods, and support trade and other economic activities along the corridor.

Kindiki also called on those overseeing construction to prioritise locally available labour and construction materials, linking the infrastructure programme to employment creation and opportunities for local businesses.

“The construction of the 67-kilometer Thika- Magumu Mau Mau Roads at a cost of 3.4 billion shillings is on schedule, with 31 kilometers of the road that connects Kiambu and Nyandarua Counties done,” he said in a statement shared after the inspection.

The Deputy President further pointed to three major transport infrastructure projects that he said would contribute to transforming Kiambu’s economy: the Rironi–Mau Summit Road, the Thika–Nairobi Expressway and the Muthaiga–Kiambu dual road.

The projects are expected to improve transport links within the region and strengthen connections between residential areas, commercial centres and major economic corridors. Their impact will depend on timely delivery, road capacity and how effectively the expanded routes address congestion and transport costs.

Kindiki was accompanied by Gatundu North MP Njoroge Kururia, Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a and other leaders during the inspection.

The road works form part of the government’s broader infrastructure programme in Kiambu County, where the administration has pledged extensive road upgrades. The completion of the projects will be a key measure of whether the announced investment translates into better connectivity and economic benefits for residents and businesses.
