The Democracy for the Citizens Party led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made a strong debut in Kenya’s political scene, winning three county assembly seats in the November 27 by elections.
The party claimed victories in Narok Township, Kariobangi North, and Kisa East, less than seven months after its formation. Analysts say this demonstrates a growing appetite among Kenyans for fresh leadership and alternatives to long established political parties.
In a statement, Gachagua commended residents in the three wards for standing firm in the face of intimidation, violence, and what he described as state sponsored disruptions during the campaign.
“I salute the people of Narok Township, Kariobangi North, and Kisa East for exercising their democratic right despite threats and attacks,” he said. “They have rejected voter bribery and proven that democracy belongs to the people.”

The former deputy president also urged party members and prospective candidates to remain actively engaged with their communities, emphasizing the importance of listening to constituents and building grassroots support.
“Our party, only seven months old, has outperformed parties that have existed for decades. This is a clear message that Kenyans are ready for change,” Gachagua said.
DCP’s strong showing underscores the rising influence of new political movements in Kenya and highlights the courage and resilience of voters who refuse to be silenced or bought.
