Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of prioritising control of the Mt Kenya political base over efforts to remove President William Ruto from office.
In a political statement, Wambugu argued that Gachagua’s fight with Ndindi Nyoro, the Kiharu MP, reinforced his long-held view that the former Deputy President was more interested in establishing himself as the region’s political kingpin than building a united opposition front against Ruto.
“Jofri’s fight against Ndindi proves what we have always said – that Jofri is not interested in removing Ruto from office. He is interested ONLY in being Mt Kenya Kingpin. Period,” Wambugu said.
Gachagua, who was impeached as Deputy President in October 2024, has since positioned himself as a leading critic of the Ruto administration and has sought to consolidate support in Mt Kenya through his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
On the other side, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has been traversing across the Mt Kenya region drumming support for his newly launched political party dubbed People Party of Kenya (PPK)
