Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko on Tuesday, December 9, formally received the Certificate of Full Registration for his newly-formed National Economic Development Party (NEDP), marking a major milestone in his political comeback.
The certificate was issued at the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) headquarters at Lion Place, Nairobi, after the Registrar confirmed that the party had complied with all legal requirements under the Political Parties Act.
Sonko, accompanied by interim National Executive Council (NEC) members, said the official registration ushers in a new chapter in his political journey and positions NEDP as a fresh alternative focused on economic empowerment, social welfare, and youth opportunities.

“This certificate is not just a document; it is a commitment to serve Kenyans differently, with integrity, transparency, and development-driven leadership,” Sonko said, adding that the party will soon embark on a nationwide recruitment and sensitization drive.
Documents submitted to ORPP show a full list of interim NEC members, including Secretary General Benard Kioo Mulwa, National Chairperson John Muchai Nyamu, National Treasurer Francis Wambua, and National Organizing Secretary Peterson Maina among others.

The party leadership said NEDP will roll out detailed policy proposals in the coming weeks, ahead of its official national launch.
