Tim Wanyonyi: I Don’t Need Permission To Come Home!

By Isabella Maua

Bungoma gubernatorial aspirant who is also the MP for Westlands, Tim Wanyonyi, has rubbished off his opponents who claim he is a foreigner in the county.

Speaking at his offices in Bungoma, the legislator emphasized that most of his opponents thrive on cheap propaganda rather than service to the local mwananchi.

“Most of those vying for the gubernatorial seat think that cheap publicity and buying votes from the locals will give them leeway to the coveted seat; that is not true,” he observed.

He further cited that it is the role of media to educate the public on who a true, dedicated leader is and not allow voters to be misled by leaders who are never accountable while in public office.

“In Bungoma it’s very evident that there’s largely a lack of public participation and accountability at the county level, but most of the wananchi are blinded by show-offs of diverted funds,” Wanyonyi added.

He also condemned the drama that most candidates are using to do their early campaigns, like constructing mud houses for old folks, roofing houses for the less fortunate in their areas of jurisdiction, and even purporting to pay school fees for the needy students.

“There’s no budget stipulated for a public officer to build homes for people; these are diverted funds. The government should create opportunity and an enabling environment for people to function, hence empowering them, not lying to them for votes,” the leader emphasized.

He also challenged leaders to take moral responsibility and lead by example instead of refusing to step down once they have been summoned for corruption or any activities that jeopardize their reputation.

Wanyonyi cites that for the time he has served the people of Nairobi, he has learned and practiced accountability and transparency beyond reasonable doubt, and he is ripe to come back home as a dove with a twig in its beak.

He conclusively said, “Bungoma is my home, and I need no one’s permission to come and serve my people. I come in peace and in full swing.”
