96 MCAs Resolve to Impeach Sakaja over Incompetency, Ignorance and Lack of Political Goodwill

Nairobi MCAs have unanimously agreed to impeach Governor Johnson Sakaja over what they term as sheer incompetency and neglect of development projects at the ward level.

The resolution was passed after a Speakers Kamkunji convened by Speaker Ken Ngondi to allow the MCAs ventilate on persistent grievances they have been complaining about.A special retreat has been scheduled for Tuesday next week in Naivasha, where the assembly leadership will spearhead signature collection.

Nairobi South B MCA Chege Waithera confirmed that the final decision was reached with the house leadership across the political divide set to lead the onslaught on the governor.

Waithera said Sakaja’s fate is sealed and that no other decision will make the MCAs rescind on their resolve.

“There are so many projects that have stalled within the wards and the residents have been asking why those projects have not been completed,” she said

The members are also complaining that the governor has lost touch with the ground(the people) and the support of over three quarters of the assembly.

The governors fate is now in jeopardy considering that both ODM and UDA MCAs have joined forces with respective party leadership already informed of the planned impeachment.

Waithera added that the assembly will execute the impeachment within the confines of the law.

“Signature collection will start very soon and all members are coordinated and we believe by next week we will be ready to execute. We had about 96 members who attended the Kamkunji so we are over and above the required numbers,” she said.

Majority of the MCAs said that they are ready and eager to deal with the governor once and for all and that even if it means having a special sitting next week, the impeachment resolution is irreversible.

Roysambu MCA Sospeter Wamumbi said the MCAs will not sacrifice their political ambitions to please the governor.

“Sisi kama waeshimiwa tumesema kama mtu amesimama kwa njia, iwe ni governor,CECM ama iwe nani tuko tiyari( We as MCAs have resolved that if anyone wants to stand on our way, whether its the governor,County Executive Committee Member or anyone else,we are ready to deal with them)

Nairobi CBD Mwaniki Kwenya accused the governor of working with opponents of sitting MCAs for the 2027 elections.

“ How can the governor work with our opponents when he supposed to coordinate development with us?,” Kwenya said.

This will be the second initiative by the assembly to impeach the governor with the first one having been coordinated  Two residents had also petitioned the assembly to impeach the governor but the petitions were thrown out by the speaker.

This comes against the backdrop of reports that the Governor has lost favor with ODM leader Raila Odinga and the senior leaders within the ruling party.
