Kindiki Highlights Sh27bn Housing Fund Investment in Murang’a

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has highlighted a Sh27 billion investment by the Housing Fund in Murang’a County, targeting fresh produce markets, affordable housing and student accommodation facilities as the government expands development projects in the region.

Kindiki said the investment forms part of a wider government plan to transform Murang’a County’s economy by improving infrastructure, housing and public facilities.

Speaking during a public engagement meeting at Kigio Shopping Centre in Gatanga Constituency on Thursday, October 8, 2026, Kindiki said the Housing Fund is financing 26 fresh produce markets, nine affordable housing projects and eight student accommodation facilities across the county.

“The Housing Fund is investing 27 billion shillings to build 26 fresh produce markets, nine affordable housing projects and eight student accommodation hostel facilities in the County,” Kindiki said.

Gatanga Constituency is among the areas benefiting from the investment, with projects including fresh produce markets at Ndunyu Chege, Gatunyu, Ithanga, Kaguku and Gatura.

The constituency is also set to benefit from the Sh5.4 billion Kakuzi/Mitubiri Affordable Housing Project, which will provide 2,000 housing units once completed.

Kindiki said the government was also investing in education infrastructure in Gatanga, including Sh145 million for the construction of a 340-bed student accommodation facility at Gatanga Technical and Vocational College.

Another Sh100 million has been allocated towards upgrading facilities at Kihumbuini School, further expanding the range of public infrastructure projects being implemented in the constituency.

The Deputy President also highlighted investments in electricity connectivity, saying last-mile electricity projects worth Sh1 billion are underway across Murang’a County.

The projects are expected to connect an additional 13,000 households and public amenities to electricity, expanding access to power for homes, businesses and institutions.

Kindiki also reported progress in the uptake of the Universal Medical Insurance Scheme administered under the Social Health Authority (SHA), saying 460,000 of the county’s estimated one million residents had enrolled.

The Deputy President said the government would continue engaging residents on development priorities while tracking implementation of projects across the county.

The public engagement was attended by Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina, MPs Peter Kihungi of Kangema and Sabina Chege, MCAs and other local leaders.

Kindiki said the various investments were part of the government’s broader effort to improve living conditions, expand economic opportunities and strengthen public services in Murang’a County.
