Activist Sues KMPDC CEO Over Alleged Registration of Ghost Health Facilities

An activist has sued Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council Chief Executive Officer Dr. Daniel Kariuki for allegedly participating in registration of non existing health facilities across the country.

The case filed at the Milimani High Court by Stephen Nyaga wants Kariuki kicked out of office for allegedly participating in many other fraudulent activities

The petitioner argues that Dr.Kariuki is to blame because he is in charge of regulating the training, practice, and licensing of medicine, dentistry, and oral health professionals in Kenya, as well as licensing and inspecting all health facilities within the country

“The Respondent has engaged in dereliction of duties him being the head of Registration and Licensing Board”

He claims that Dr. Kariuki authorized the registration of non-existing health facilities all over the country to a tune of 1,188 fraudulent files discovered by the Social Health Authority (SHA)

“He has also approved and accredited SHA to the listed facilities which includes the ghost health facilities without setting proper mechanisms even for existing facilities”

He also argues that the  unauthorized health facilities have operated under the respondent watch all over the country not limiting non-compliant or unqualified medical facilities which have been licensed.

“Through the Respondent incompetency, the government has lost taxpayers money to fraudulent individuals whom have taken advantage of the process neglected by the respondent 14. That under the Respondent watch compliance officers and licensing staff within the KMPDC have engaged in malpractice. This is a result of the Respondent incompetence,”

He is blaming  KMPDC for  not actively working  to protect the public from substandard care as a results of the incompetency of the CEO.

He has pleaded with the court to  direct the EACC   from issuing clearance certificate to the CEO and investigative agencies given directives to investigate the CEO’s financial records.
