Award-winning businessman and community leader Ephraim Wainaina has officially declared his intention to contest for the Thika Town Constituency parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2027 General Election, setting the stage for he promises to be an intriguing campaign versus Thika’s political mainstays.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with Tuko, Wainaina said his decision to join politics stems from a deep desire to bring a new, practical style of leadership that focuses on youth empowerment, job creation, and economic revival in Thika.
“I am offering myself for leadership because I believe Thika Town Constituency needs a representative who understands the challenges facing ordinary citizens and has the drive to work for the people, not for their selfish interests,” he said.

Born and raised in Makongeni and Biafra, Wainaina’s story mirrors that of the people he seeks to represent. He grew up playing in the same streets, helping his parents make ends meet, and dreaming of a better Thika for everyone.
Now the Director of 3 successful ventures that have created jobs for young people and empowered small business owners, he is ready to give back to his constituency and carve a similar path to success for his people.

Wainaina is also a recipient of the Top 35 Under 35 Award by Kenya’s Ministry of ICT and UNFPA, and was recognized for founding one of Africa’s Top 100 Startups at the World Youth Forum in Egypt (2018).
A few years ago, he was also selected for the African Leadership Empowerment Program in Washington, D.C., USA – a prestigious program designed to equip young African leaders to serve their communities with excellence, vision, and accountability.
In addition, business and professional engagements have seen him make waves in Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Egypt, Ghana, South Africa, Dubai, Qatar, and China.
Political analysts say that this rare blend of global exposure and local success will make him a favourite of Thika Town’s youthful and tech-savvy population.
If elected, Wainaina says he will focus on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), revamping education, and promoting local industries to restore Thika’s status as Kenya’s leading industrial hub.
He also promises to champion inclusive leadership, actively engaging youth and women in policymaking, and ensuring that resources reach every household across Thika’s five wards.
Residents who know him describe the former Secretary-General of the Kenyatta University Students Association as “a man of the people” – approachable, humble, and visionary.
His leadership style reflects his personal values of integrity, honesty and service – qualities many Thika residents say have been missing in politics for too long.
As the 2027 election approaches, Wainaina’s entry adds momentum to what many see as a long-overdue generational shift in Thika’s politics.
