A shocking incident unfolded at Ramoya village, Samba Sub, Homa Bay County, when a 35-year-old elder from the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church was brutally stabbed by a fellow elder during a church service on Saturday.
The attack is believed to have been sparked by a love triangle.
The victim, Francis Opiyo, was stabbed at the altar while the congregation looked on. He had just finished delivering the church reports before the main sermon, which was to be led by the pastor.
According to Caxton Ndunda, the Suba South Sub County Police boss, Francis had completed his part and passed the proceedings to another elder for the pastor’s session.
However, as Francis was stepping down, the suspect, another elder in the same church, walked up to the altar, pulled a knife from his Bible, and stabbed Francis in the chest. He collapsed instantly.

The assailant allegedly accused Francis of having an affair with his wife, who is also a member of the church. After the attack, the suspect fled the scene but later turned himself in to the area Assistant Chief. Francis was rushed to the hospital but tragically passed away while receiving treatment.
The police have arrested the suspect, who is now in custody at Magunga police station. Authorities are urging the community to seek peaceful solutions to their problems rather than resorting to violence.
The body of the deceased has been transferred to St Camillus Hospital Mortuary in Sori Town, Migori County.
