Co-operative Bank has issued a statement following the destruction of its Githurai and Dagoretti Market branches during Wednesday’s anti-government protests.
According to the bank, the two branches were vandalized during the unrest, but no injuries were reported among customers or staff.
The bank confirmed that while one ATM suffered a minor cash loss, most systems and assets remained secure.

“Repairs have already begun, and the affected branches will be back in full operation in the coming days,” Co-op Bank said.
The lender also assred customers that services remain uninterrupted across its network, and urged clients from the affected areas to use nearby Co-op Bank branches in the meantime.
“Co-op Bank notes that two of our branches in Githurai and Dagoretti market were affected during the demonstrations yesterday. We advise that there were no injuries to any of our customers or staff, with minimal cash loss from one of the ATMS,” Bank said.
The protests, which swept through several urban areas, led to widespread damage to businesses, including financial institutions.
Co-op Bank becomes one of the first banks to publicly confirm the extent of the impact and update customers on recovery measures.
“We thank our customers for their continued trust and understanding during this period,” the statement added.
