Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen on Tuesday toured Homa Bay County ahead of the official launch of the Jukwaa la Usalama program.
Addressing the press, Murkomen assured residents of government intervention to address rising cases of fishermen harassment along Lake Victoria’s border points.
“Our major concern is strengthening the Coast Guard and border patrol units. We also commend President Ruto’s engagement with President Museveni on the joint management of Lake Victoria, which will help resolve issues of competition, border disputes, and harassment of fishermen,” he said.

The CS underscored the importance of the new program, describing it as a shield for minority groups in the community.
He stressed that the recent ban on disco matangas was part of wider efforts to curb night-long gatherings that often provide a breeding ground for gang-related insecurity.
Murkomen further pledged more government investment in tackling rape and defilement, which he noted remain rampant in the region.
He also promised a joint crackdown on illicit brews and contraband, working closely with law enforcement agencies and local security officers.
