The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has strongly condemned what it describes as a “cowardly and criminal” attack on its members and supporters following an overnight incident in Kayole that saw the destruction of a party billboard.
In a press statement issued Saturday and signed by Irungu Nyakera,a Patron for the Nairobi , the party claims that on the night of May 16th, unidentified individuals—some allegedly dressed in police uniforms—stormed a private building at Kayole Junction, overpowered security personnel, and vandalized a billboard bearing the party’s message and leadership images.

The DCP alleges the attackers made politically charged remarks during the incident, reportedly stating, “Hao watu wako hapo wanapinga serikali,” implying the attack may have been politically motivated.
” We call upon the Inspector General of Police and relevant oversight bodies to urgently investigate this incident, and hold accountable all those responsible for these criminal acts,” Statement read.

The party further accuses officers at the Kariobangi Police Station, where the incident was reported, of intimidation and bias. According to the statement, one officer questioned the complainants by asking, “Wewe ndio umeweka hile picha kubwa ya Wamunyoro na Nyakera?”—a reference to key DCP leaders—raising concerns about police impartiality.
“The use of intimidation, political violence, and abuse of authority has no place in a just society,” read part of the DCP’s statement. “Such acts threaten the democratic foundations of our nation.”
The party is now calling on the Inspector General of Police and relevant oversight authorities to launch an urgent investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
