Gatundu South MP G.G Kagombe facilitated a business engagement between KTDA and Iran-based Sharzad Trading Company at the KTDA Head Office in Nairobi today.
This initiative aims to diversify Kenya’s tea markets, aligning with President William Ruto’s directive to explore and tap into lucrative tea markets.
Iran, known for its consumption of orthodox teas, emerges as a promising avenue for KTDA to extend its reach into the rapidly growing orthodox and specialized tea segment.
President Ruto, in a recent statement, reiterated the need to broaden and unlock profitable tea markets, including Iran. He emphasized the importance of shifting towards increased production of orthodox and specialized teas while focusing on value addition to ensure better returns for farmers.
These sentiments were echoed during a meeting at State House, Nairobi, where President Ruto convened with KTDA factory chairmen and directors. Additionally, there was an agreement to operationalize the Tea Tribunal to address disputes among stakeholders.
