Ida Odinga on Thursday disclosed that her net worth stands at approximately Sh500 million as she appeared before Parliament for vetting as Kenya’s nominee for Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (Unep).
Speaking before the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations, Ida told MPs that her wealth comprises investments and family assets, as required under the public appointments disclosure rules.
The nominee also used the session to share her personal background and professional journey.
“I was born in Kabarnet, at a hospital where both my parents served. My father was a medical officer, and my mother a nurse,” she said.
She recounted losing her father at a young age, leaving her mother to single-handedly raise the family.

“I lost my father at a young age, and my mother raised us,” she told the committee.
Ida said she grew up in Gem and later in Migori, experiences she noted shaped her understanding of rural communities and development challenges.
She pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Nairobi, specialising in Geography.
“I went to UoN for a Bachelor of Arts degree, specialising in Geography, which exposed me to environmental issues,” she said.
If approved, Ida will represent Kenya at Unep headquarters in Nairobi, where she will be tasked with advancing the country’s environmental and climate agenda in global forums.
The committee is expected to table its report in the House after concluding the vetting process.
