Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi have visited Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan to convey Kenya’s support following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.
Joho, who was accompanied by Sudi, delivered President William Ruto’s message of condolence and encouragement to President Samia as she mourns the death of Tanzania’s First Gentleman.
The visit underscored the solidarity between Kenya and Tanzania at a time of grief, with Joho assuring President Samia and her family that Kenyans were standing with them through the difficult period.
Joho said he conveyed Ruto’s message to the Tanzanian leader and assured her family of Kenya’s thoughts and prayers.
He also prayed for strength, comfort and peace for President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania, while asking Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest.
Hafidh died on Monday while receiving treatment for a heart condition at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar. His death was announced by Tanzania’s Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi.
Hafidh became Tanzania’s First Gentleman in 2021 when President Samia assumed office, becoming the country’s first female president. Despite his position, he largely maintained a low public profile.
President Ruto had earlier mourned Hafidh, describing him as President Samia’s lifelong companion, a beloved father to their children and a distinguished son of Tanzania.
The Kenyan President also assured Tanzania of Kenya’s solidarity during the mourning period.
