Koimburi Accuses Gachagua of Radicalizing Mt Kenya with ‘One Term’ Campaign

Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of radicalising the Mt Kenya region through his “one term” campaign against President William Ruto, urging residents to think independently before following political leaders.

Speaking during a meeting with clergy at Gatundu Garden last week, Koimburi challenged residents to question political messages and assess whether those advancing them had a clear vision for the region.

“We have been held captive by Gachagua. He is just saying one term and we as people, we are just following his script knowing very well that Gachagua himself can’t vie for presidency, we need to follow leaders with a vision,” Koimburi said.

The legislator urged Mt Kenya residents to stop what he described as political radicalisation and make decisions based on their interests rather than blindly following influential politicians.

Koimburi also called on the clergy to support the government, citing its development record and urging religious leaders to encourage constructive engagement with the administration.

His remarks come amid growing political divisions in Mt Kenya, where Gachagua has popularised the “one term” campaign as part of his opposition to Ruto’s re-election bid in the 2027 General Election.

The former deputy president has urged voters to deny Ruto a second term, a message that has drawn criticism from leaders allied to the government, who argue that the region should prioritise development and its relationship with the national administration.

Koimburi’s criticism also follows his return to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) after falling out with Gachagua and his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

The Juja MP’s latest remarks underscore the contest over political influence in Mt Kenya, with leaders aligned with the government urging residents to reconsider the opposition’s messaging as the 2027 elections approach.
