Juja MP George Koimburi was reportedly abducted on Sunday, May 25, while leaving a church service at Full Gospel Church in Mugutha, Kiambu County.
According to his wife, Ann Koimburi, two men disguised as worshippers approached the MP after the service. They joined a group of people greeting him before suddenly forcing him into a Subaru Forester.
“We had just left the church service, and it’s normal for Mheshimiwa to greet people, but they quickly turned on him and forced him into the car. They started hitting me from outside, and it felt as if my arm was broken. I had no choice but to let go of my husband’s leg,” Ann Koimburi said.
Hours after the abduction, the MP was found critically injured, reportedly tortured, and dumped in a coffee plantation in Kiambu County.
This was not the first time Koimburi had a close call.
On Friday, May 23, 2025, he reportedly escaped an attempted arrest while issuing bursaries at Gachororo Primary School.
He abandoned his vehicle and driver, fleeing the scene on a motorbike.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) denied involvement in the abduction but confirmed that Koimburi has been under investigation since Friday over alleged land fraud and misuse of Constituency Development Funds (CDF).
His abduction may be linked to his recent criticism of the government. Koimburi has accused the administration of misusing public funds for political campaigns and threatened to move a motion to impeach National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
He also criticized President William Ruto’s recent cabinet appointments, claiming they were purely political and included leaders rejected in the last general election.
In July 2024, Koimburi caused a stir by alleging that MPs were bribed to vote for the Finance Bill 2024. He later issued a public apology.
