Kameme FM presenter Muthoni wa Kirumba has opened up on why she became emotional following the arrest of popular Mugithi star Waithaka Wa Jane in Germany.
Speaking after the incident, Kirumba clarified that her tears were not just out of shock but from deep frustration over what she described as a deliberate attempt to sabotage a rising artiste’s career.
“I cried because I know how much Waithaka has worked to get where he is. To see someone try to bring him down using false accusations broke me completely,” she said.
Kirumba added that the experience was a reminder of the challenges many Kenyan artistes face when trying to build international careers, including malicious rivalries and betrayal within the industry.
Waithaka Wa Jane was detained for five hours by German airport police after promoter Joseph Kamau alias Kamau Rafikis allegedly tipped off authorities that the singer was a “drug trafficker.”
He was later released after a thorough search cleared him of any wrongdoing.
Kirumba called on promoters and stakeholders in the entertainment industry to support rather than fight Kenyan musicians, emphasizing that unity is key to growing Mugithi music beyond borders.
