The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the licences of 62 public service vehicle (PSV) drivers from seven transport companies after a compliance review revealed a series of serious safety breaches.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 9, the Authority said the affected drivers will be subjected to mandatory retesting before their licences are reinstated.
“This action follows a compliance assessment that revealed multiple violations and serious safety concerns,” NTSA stated.
As part of the enforcement measures, NTSA has also directed the implicated transport operators to conduct road safety awareness training for all their drivers and to present selected vehicles for a fresh inspection.
The agency noted that the retesting exercise forms part of a broader effort to enhance road safety, especially as the country enters the busy festive period.

“The driver re-testing exercise is part of broader proactive measures aimed at ensuring every driver possesses the requisite skills and competencies to safely operate on our roads,” the Authority added.
NTSA further disclosed that several other PSV operators remain under investigation as part of ongoing efforts to enforce safety compliance across the sector.
“These actions highlight our firm and ongoing commitment to road safety, particularly during this festive season,” the Authority said.
The crackdown comes amid increased concerns over rising road incidents during the holiday period, with the Authority urging operators and motorists to observe all traffic regulations.
