NTV Documentary Raises Fresh Questions Over Ol Kalou By-Election Conduct

A documentary aired by NTV has sparked renewed debate over the conduct of the recent Ol Kalou by-election after presenting footage that allegedly links individuals to voter bribery and other election-related irregularities.

The investigative report claims to expose individuals who were allegedly involved in influencing the electoral process through the distribution of money and other incentives during the campaign period. According to the documentary, some of those featured were reportedly members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) campaign team, whose candidate ultimately lost the by-election.

The report also alleges that vehicles without number plates or with altered registration plates were used during the campaign, raising concerns about transparency and accountability. In addition, the documentary shows footage of individuals allegedly distributing cash to residents—an act that, if proven, could amount to voter bribery under Kenya’s electoral laws.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has indicated that it will investigate the allegations. Residents of Ol Kalou are now calling for a thorough and impartial inquiry into all those implicated, regardless of their political affiliation.

The revelations have also reignited questions about the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) preparedness to conduct elections that are free, fair, and credible, particularly as the country prepares for future electoral contests.
