Kenyan security agencies have foiled a planned terror attack in Nairobi, following months of intense intelligence work and surveillance targeting suspects believed to be linked to the Somalia-based extremist group Al-Shabaab.

In a coordinated counter-terrorism operation, officers raided a suspected hideout in the city, uncovering a cache of dangerous weapons and supplies. Authorities recovered five AK-47 rifles, six hand grenades, a Makarov pistol, and more than 600 rounds of ammunition, along with medical kits and other logistical items believed to have been prepared for an attack.
Security officials say the seizure highlights how advanced and prepared the suspected plot was, and how close it may have been to being carried out. The operation was the result of close cooperation between multiple security agencies, who tracked the suspects over time using intelligence gathering, surveillance, and data analysis.
The National Police Service praised the efforts of specialised units such as the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit and the Special Operations Group, saying such behind-the-scenes work is critical in keeping the public safe. Authorities also assured Kenyans that security remains tight in Nairobi and across the country, with officers on high alert to prevent any potential threats.
Police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives, property, and critical infrastructure, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
