Pwani Oil Products has taken a proactive role in empowering Nandi-based gospel artist and cancer survivor Elias Kurgat, whose journey includes a seven-year battle with cancer that led to the amputation of one leg.
Recognizing his talent and resilience, the company provided Kurgat with a public address system, funded through community contributions. This support will enable him to rebuild his music career and earn additional income from event services.
The initiative emerged against the backdrop of research showing that community contributions and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) are intrinsically linked, with effective community engagement significantly enhancing the success and sustainability of CSR initiatives.
The contribution formed part of a three-day roadshow across Nandi County, which sought to directly engage local communities. It brought together Pwani Oil representatives, local leaders, corporate partners and residents, who visited towns and market centers such as Aldai, Berur, Kabiyet, Kaiboi, Kapsabet, Nandi Hills, Ndalat and Soko. At each stop, communities enjoyed live music, interactive radio link-ups and product activations.
The roadshow was organized in partnership with Stabex Gas International, Boresha Sacco, Kaiboi Technical, the Nandi County Government and Moiben Connection Limited. This multi-faceted approach showcased the value to communities of coordinated efforts between corporate entities and local institutions. The CSR component of the programme in Koilot Sublocation was particularly memorable as it brought together community members and sponsors to celebrate Kurgat’s resilience.
Pwani Oil has a longstanding commitment to community development, with previous CSR initiatives spanning education sponsorships, health campaigns, environmental conservation efforts and empowerment programs for youth and women. These activities reveal the company’s holistic approach to uplifting communities and addressing their diverse needs.
“Such initiatives are intended at creating sustainable opportunities for beneficiaries to rebuild their lives and pursue their dreams. This is the essence of our commitment and we are always looking for opportunities to create lasting impact in our communities,” said Pwani Oil’s Commercial Director, Rajul Malde.
He added that the company’s community-driven approach is critical in creating practical opportunities for ordinary families, while reaffirming its commitment to supporting initiatives that deliver measurable social impact.
