Samsung has announced the expansion of its One UI platform to home appliances, creating a unified and intuitive software experience that now spans smartphones, TVs, and connected appliances. As part of the rollout, all Wi-Fi-enabled Samsung appliances launched from 2024 onward will receive up to seven years of software updates, with the first upgrades arriving this September.
“By bringing One UI to smart appliances, we are transforming the way people interact with technology in their homes,” said Jeong Seung Moon, EVP and Head of the R&D Team for Samsung’s Digital Appliances Business. “This consistency ensures that the experience feels natural and familiar across all our devices.”
A Unified Samsung Experience
The move brings consistent design elements, apps, and functionality across Samsung’s ecosystem. Features like Bixby, Gallery, and Samsung TV Plus will extend to appliances, offering a seamless experience across multiple screens. SmartThings integration further enhances device connectivity with services like Family Care, Pet Care, and Home Care.
A key highlight is Now Brief, a shared interface that delivers real-time, personalized updates — such as weather forecasts, family schedules, recipes, and appliance status notifications like laundry cycle progress — directly on appliance screens.
Seven-Year Software Support
From September, Samsung’s 2024 smart appliances will begin receiving long-term updates designed to improve security, intelligence, and usability.
-
Upgraded Security: Samsung’s Knox Matrix protection will extend to refrigerators, washers, dryers, air conditioners, and ranges, creating a “trust chain” where devices monitor each other’s security. Screen-equipped appliances like Family Hub refrigerators and Bespoke AI washers will also gain encrypted credential sync, Passkey support, and a new Knox security dashboard.
-
Smarter Features: AI Vision Inside expands recognition of packaged and fresh foods, while Bixby Voice ID allows appliances to deliver personalized responses. Bixby can now be activated with a simple double-tap gesture.
-
Service Expansion: Samsung TV Plus on Family Hub refrigerators will extend to Canada, Brazil, and India, while washing machines with 7-inch screens will support eight additional Indian languages.
-
Refined Interface: A refreshed One UI design, first seen on 2025 models, will roll out to 2024 appliances for smoother navigation and localized features.
With One UI powering its appliance ecosystem, Samsung is signaling a future where the smart home is not only more connected, but also smarter, more secure, and consistently user-friendly across every screen.
