From a childhood dream in the hills of Murang’a to Nairobi’s national stage, the journey of Garissa Township Base Commander, Inspector Kennedy Njuguna Muchoki, is one marked by determination, discipline, and a deep commitment to public service.
Born and raised in Murang’a County, Inspector Njuguna defied expectations early in life by choosing a career in policing—despite being an A-grade student.
His passion led him to pursue a degree in Criminology at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), a decision that laid the foundation for a distinguished career in law enforcement.
He officially joined the Kenya Police Service in 2017, graduating from the Kenya Police Training College (Kiganjo) in 2018.

His first posting as a constable was in Kakamega County, where he served in the Anti-Crime Branch. A subsequent transfer took him to Bungoma County, where he continued his service until his promotion to Inspector. He was then posted to Malindi Police Station as the Officer Commanding Anti-Crime Branch (OC Crime).
While in Malindi, Inspector Njuguna played a critical role in the high-profile Operation Okoa Maisha in Shakahola. As the officer in charge of the Kenya Police Service camp, he led efforts that resulted in the rescue of 95 individuals from the forest.

The operation lasted approximately five months, standing as a testament to his leadership and operational acumen.
In 2023, he was appointed Deputy Base Commander in Malindi, where he gained a reputation for his firm yet innovative traffic management strategies.

His approach combined law enforcement with public engagement, working closely with transport stakeholders, institutions, and motorists—including boda-boda and tuk-tuk operators—to instil safer road practices.
By 2025, he had taken up his current role as Base Commander in Garissa Township, where his commitment to road safety reached new heights. His daily sensitisation meetings with road users and collaborative sessions with the public have helped reshape the region’s traffic culture.
In recognition of his efforts, he was nominated—alongside other base commanders—for the inaugural AA Road Safety Excellence Awards, and later at a prestigious ceremony held on 4th July 2025, at the Pullman Hotel in Upper Hill, Nairobi, the officer was crowned Traffic Base Commander of the Year.

The event, hosted by AA Kenya, honoured individuals and institutions making remarkable contributions to road safety.
The ceremony was graced by high-ranking dignitaries, including the Principal Secretary for Sports, Mr. Elijah Mwangi, NTSA Director General, Mr. George Njao, and NPS Deputy Commandant Traffic, Mr. Kipkemoi Kirui,CP, among others.
Inspector Njuguna’s story stands as an inspiring example of excellence in service, demonstrating the National Police Service’s mission to provide effective, people-centric, and accountable policing for a safe and prosperous society.
