A young mother of three children including a five-months-old baby in Ruiru, Kiambu spent last night in a house without doors after her landlord ordered them removed.
Following instructions of the property owner John Ngugi, the caretaker identified as Peter Kamau also removed the flush toilet.
Kamau accompanied by a plumber and welder removed the front and rear doors claiming they were going to repair them then weld them back in the evening. (Watch video below).
“They came around midday and lied to me saying they were doing normal repairs but when I left, I realised they also took away the flush toilet and disconnected water. He claimed my toilet caused a blockage of others on the third and fourth floor” she said.
The tenant said there was no dispute between her and Ngugi apart from a one-month arrear she had promised to clear today.
“I owed him Sh16, 000 in arrears which I was to settle today. What they did is inhumane. I have a five-month-old baby. They endangered my life” she lamented.
Neighbours came to her rescue with food and others offered her children accommodation.
Ngugi who is a senior staff at DT Dobie Kenya claimed the house had problems with waste pipes which he wanted fixed promptly.
He alleged that the doors had corroded and the flush toilet blocked sewer lines.
The victim and other tenants who sought anonymity disputed his claims saying the house like others in the five-story building was in good condition and needed no repairs.
“He just wanted to evict her in such an inhumane way. We witnessed the incident and it was ugly” a tenant revealed.
Now the victim is unable to go to work or even step out fearing the house would be ransacked by thieves.
The incident was reported to police but no action yet.
John Ngugi the landlord.
