Traffic Disrupted on Thika Road After Body is Found in Ruiru River

By Kerry Wachira

Traffic flow along the busy Thika Superhighway was disrupted on Tuesday after the body of a man was discovered floating in the Ruiru River near Gwa Kairo Stage, drawing a large crowd of onlookers and slowing movement in both directions.

Witnesses gathered along the riverbanks as police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to retrieve the body. The growing crowd attracted the attention of motorists, with many slowing down to observe the incident, leading to heavy traffic congestion along the affected stretch of the highway.

Authorities had not released the identity of the deceased by Tuesday evening or disclosed the circumstances surrounding the death. The body was recovered and taken to a local mortuary, where it is expected to undergo a post-mortem examination to help determine the cause of death.

Police launched investigations into the incident and appealed to members of the public to cooperate with investigators.

“We urge members of the public to avoid speculation and allow investigators to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances that led to the incident. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is encouraged to report to the nearest police station,” a spokesperson from the National Police Service said in previous public advisories regarding ongoing death investigations.

Motorists experienced lengthy delays as police managed the scene and members of the public continued to gather near the river. Traffic officers worked to ease the congestion and restore the normal flow of vehicles along the highway.
