Vilcom Joins Citizen Digital Walk to Raise Ksh 17M for Diabetic Children

Internet service provider Vilcom Networks has called on Kenyans to prioritize regular medical check-ups, particularly for diabetes, as part of the broader fight against the country’s rising burden of non-communicable diseases.

The appeal was made during the Citizen Digital Diabetes Walk, held on Saturday, which aimed to raise Ksh 17 million to support children living with diabetes.

The walk began at Carnivore Grounds, passed through Nairobi’s Central Business District, and ended back at the starting point.

Speaking at the event, Vilcom Networks CEO Agnes Limo emphasized the importance of early screening and routine health monitoring.

“Diabetes often goes undetected until it’s too late. We urge Kenyans to prioritize their health by going for routine medical check-ups. Awareness is the first step in prevention,” Limo said.

She noted that Vilcom’s participation in the walk was part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility initiatives, which go beyond internet connectivity.

“We cannot ignore the rising burden of lifestyle diseases. Public awareness campaigns like these are necessary to shift focus from treatment to prevention,” she added.

Staff members from Vilcom, dressed in branded attire, joined other participants in the walk, handing out water and offering encouragement to fellow walkers.

Fridah Wanza, the company’s PR and Marketing Manager, said Vilcom was committed to supporting national health campaigns through active participation and advocacy.

“As a company, we recognize that strong communities start with healthy people. Today, we walked not just in support of those living with diabetes but to amplify the message that prevention and early intervention save lives,” Wanza said.

She added that many people unknowingly live with diabetes and urged the public to make health screenings a regular part of their lives.

“We are encouraging Kenyans to adopt routine screenings to improve their quality of life and avoid preventable health crises,” she said.

The Citizen Digital Diabetes Walk brought together thousands of participants, including families, health professionals, civil society groups, and corporates.

The funds raised will go toward supporting children living with Type 1 diabetes through access to insulin and other medical support.
