A multi-agency security team in Busia County has seized thousands of litres of illicit ethanol following a targeted operation along the Amase–Amongura Road.
The operation, which was based on actionable intelligence, involved the pursuit of a suspicious trailer believed to be transporting illegal goods. Officers intercepted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search, confirming that it was carrying ethanol without the required documentation.

Authorities recovered 76 plastic containers, each with a capacity of 250 litres, bringing the total volume of ethanol seized to approximately 18,500 litres. The consignment is estimated to have a street value of KSh 22.2 million.
Three suspects were arrested during the operation and are currently in custody awaiting arraignment in court.
The trailer used to transport the ethanol was escorted to Adungosi Police Station, where it has been detained as investigations continue.
The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on illegal trade and ensuring public safety, warning those involved in illicit activities that they will face the full force of the law.
