Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced plans to increase Nyandarua County’s road construction budget from Sh28 billion to Sh46 billion, raising the target for roads to be tarmacked from 500 kilometres to 1,000 kilometres in the medium term.
Kindiki said the additional allocation would be part of the government’s Usawa ni Sawa initiative, which seeks to promote equitable development in regions that have historically lagged behind in infrastructure investment.
Speaking during an engagement with residents of Kinangop Constituency at Heni Township on Monday, October 26, 2026, the Deputy President said the government would also increase funding for electricity connectivity in the county.
The electricity budget for Nyandarua is set to rise from Sh1.6 billion to Sh2.5 billion, while the allocation for Kinangop Constituency will increase from Sh400 million to Sh800 million.
Kindiki said the adjustments were intended to accelerate development in Nyandarua, which he described as having historically lagged behind neighbouring counties in terms of development.

On road infrastructure, he cited the ongoing construction of the 10-kilometre Mwenda Andu–Heni–Karati/Koinange Junction road, valued at Sh647 million, alongside five other roads being tarmacked in Kinangop.
However, the Deputy President acknowledged concerns from residents over the slow pace of construction on the Ndunyu Njeru–Wanjohi–Geita road and Kwa Haraka road.
He said construction of the Engineer Market, Engineer Affordable Housing project and Kinangop Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) facilities was progressing.
Kindiki also pointed to agricultural support measures, including subsidised fertiliser, certified seeds and sexed semen, which the government says are helping improve farmers’ incomes.
He added that the completion of the Engineer and Kwa Haraka fresh produce markets in Kinangop, alongside 12 other markets across Nyandarua, would provide improved trading spaces for micro and small-scale businesses.
The proposed increase in road and electricity allocations represents a significant expansion of the government’s stated development commitments in Nyandarua. The impact will depend on budget implementation, project completion timelines and the delivery of the targeted infrastructure.
