Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced plans to increase Nyandarua County’s electricity budget from Sh1.6 billion to Sh2.5 billion, while doubling the allocation for Kinangop Constituency from Sh400 million to Sh800 million.
Kindiki said the proposed increases were part of the government’s Usawa ni Sawa initiative, which seeks to promote equitable distribution of development resources and accelerate infrastructure investment in regions that have historically lagged behind their neighbours.
Speaking during a meeting with residents of Kinangop at Heni Township on Monday, October 26, 2026, the Deputy President said Nyandarua would receive increased funding across several development areas.
“The electricity budget of 1.6 billion shillings and 400 million shillings for Nyandarua County and Kinangop Constituency respectively will be enhanced to 2.5 billion and 800 million shillings respectively,” Kindiki said in a statement.
The proposed increase would raise Nyandarua’s electricity allocation by Sh900 million, while Kinangop’s budget would rise by Sh400 million, doubling its current allocation.
The additional funding is expected to support electricity connectivity projects and expand access to power for households and businesses across the county, although a detailed breakdown of the planned projects and implementation timelines was not provided.
Kindiki’s announcement comes alongside other proposed increases in development spending for Nyandarua, including a plan to raise the road construction budget from Sh28 billion to Sh46 billion and expand the tarmacking target from 500 kilometres to 1,000 kilometres in the medium term.
The Deputy President also highlighted government support for farmers through subsidised fertiliser, certified seeds and sexed semen, saying the interventions had helped improve incomes from crop and livestock production.
He further said the completion of the Engineer and Kwa Haraka fresh produce markets in Kinangop, alongside 12 other markets across Nyandarua, would provide improved trading facilities for micro and small-scale traders.
The proposed electricity budget adjustments form part of the government’s broader development commitments in the county. Their impact will depend on the implementation of the allocations and the number of households and businesses ultimately connected to electricity.
