The Chairperson of the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) Board, Josphat Gichunge Kabeabea, was on Thursday arraigned before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court to face multiple corruption-related charges.
According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Kabeabea has been charged with four counts of receiving a bribe and one count of acquiring proceeds of crime.
EACC investigations revealed that the former Tigania East MP allegedly demanded a KSh 5 million bribe from a Chinese investor trading as Hongda Automotive Limited on November 11, 2025. The bribe was reportedly solicited to stop accusations that the investor was involved in counterfeit trade.

The commission further noted that the suspect later reduced the demand to KSh 150,000, an amount investigators say was sent to a mobile number believed to be operated by his personal driver.
Kabeabea was arrested on November 14, 2025, following a court-sanctioned search conducted at his residence and offices.
He appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Celesa Okore, where he denied all charges. The court granted him a cash bail of KSh 1 million or a KSh 2 million bond with a surety of a similar amount.
The case will be mentioned on December 8, 2025, as investigations and preparations for trial continue.
EACC reiterated its commitment to fighting corruption, safeguarding public resources, and ensuring transparent and efficient service delivery for all Kenyans.
