KITENGELA, Kenya — In an audacious attack that has sent shockwaves through the local community, a heavily armed gang stormed a residential police estate in Kitengela during broad daylight, making off with millions of shillings in cash and turning the estate’s main entrance into a chaotic crime scene.
The mid-afternoon raid targeted a heavily guarded compound, catching both residents and security personnel completely off guard. According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police reports, the assailants breached the facility in two unmarked vehicles, cornered a specific housing block, and executed a swift, coordinated operation before fleeing the scene.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described cinematic chaos as the gang made its escape through the primary gate.
“The robbers made away with wads of cash packed in cartons,” said an eyewitness who requested anonymity due to safety concerns. “At the main gate, they reportedly threw banknotes at onlookers and guards to distract them as they sped off.”
The sudden scattering of cash triggered an immediate uproar at the gates. Onlookers, guards, and nearby motorists scrambled across the tarmac to collect the falling banknotes, effectively blocking pursuing officers and creating a chaotic shield that allowed the getaway vehicles to disappear into the busy Kitengela traffic.
Local residents expressed disbelief that such a high-profile robbery could occur inside an estate designated for law enforcement officers.
“We heard a loud commotion near the gate, and when we ran over, there were notes flying everywhere in the air,” said Joseph Ndung’u, a nearby business owner. “It was pure confusion. People were diving onto the ground for cash while the robbers’ cars sped away towards the main highway. How anyone can successfully raid a police estate in broad daylight is beyond us.”
Investigators who arrived at the scene cordoned off the main gate and surrounding residential blocks to collect forensic evidence, including security camera footage and spent cartridges.
A senior police official confirmed that a multi-agency manhunt is underway to track down the suspects and determine the exact origin and total amount of the stolen cash.
“We have deployed forensic teams and activated all regional highway checkpoints,” the police representative stated during a brief evening press briefing. “This was a highly organised criminal act. We are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the estate and surrounding commercial buildings to identify the vehicles involved and ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.”
Detectives are also investigating possible insider involvement, given the gang’s precise knowledge of the estate’s layout and the location of the hidden funds.
Further updates are expected as law enforcement continues its regional search.
