Tea lobbyist and Murang’a gubernatorial aspirant Irungu Nyakera has laid accusations against Deputy President Dr. William Ruto, saying that he rigged his preferred candidates during the party’s nomination process before the 2017 General Elections.

Nyakera was reacting to a recent event at Karen’s residence when William Ruto endorsed Murang’a senator Irungu Kangata for a top seat in 2022.

Murang’a gubernatorial seat has attracted about 9 candidates who have declared interest to succeed Mwangi Wa Iria.

Among those who have declared interests include Former Senator Kembi Gitura, Former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau, Equatorial nut CEO Dr. Moses Mwangi as well as Women Representative Sabina Chege.

Others include area Senator Irungu Kang’ata, Water principal secretary Irungu Wairagu, former devolution PS Irungu Nyakera among others.

Murang’a politics is being controlled by two blocks mainly Murang’a North where Wairia, Sabina Chege, and Irungu Kangata hail and Murang’a South failed to capture any top seat in the 2017 general election.

Ruto’s endorsement opened a debate of what might have happened in 2017. He was accused of conducting bogus nominations.

Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo and Jubilee vice chairperson David Murathe are among those who accused him of conducting shoddy nominations in 2017.

Taking to his social media account, Irungu Nyakera opposed the idea of boxing all candidates to one party and dictating them who to vie which position.

“I have seen certain individuals’ chest-thumping after being ENDORSED by a “political heavyweight” as gubernatorial & MP favorites for Murang’a and Gatanga. I have news for them. Mt Kenya people Walipangwa na Wakapangika (Mt Kenya People were boxed) in 2017 and they will not accept kupangwa again in 2022. The Voice of Wanjiku will be the supreme voice this time around,” Nyakera said.

He said that party democracy must be respected and Kenyans should be allowed to elect leaders that they wish for and not those who are being endorsed by political heavyweights.

“What’s worth noting is Mt Kenya has political parties that will guarantee everyone who wants to be at the ballot an opportunity without going to RIGGED party primaries. Thanks to Munya, Wairia, Kuria, Kabogo, Kiunjuri, and Martha, democracy still has space, “he said.

Political pundits believe that deputy president William Ruto will issue direct tickets for the candidates who have been marketing the UDA party associated with him.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria taking to his social media page has also urged hustlers to say no to genetically modified democracy.

His sentiment was interpreted as attacking the deputy president who has been abusing democracy by endorsing candidates for various seats.

“Dear hustlers, say no to GMD-genetically modified democracy, “he posted.

Murang’a gubernatorial race has attracted candidates

It is believed that Ruto’s adherents want direct party tickets and ride in Ruto’s popularity in the region and hence lock out other candidates since it will be difficult for the party to conduct free and fair nominations when Ruto has thrown his weight to a certain aspirant.

In an interview with Newsline.co.ke, Ichagaki MCA Charles Mwangi Ng’ang’a has said that Kenyans should be allowed to make their own choice without being bulldozed.

Ichagaki one as popularly known said that democracy dictates that every individual has the right to make their own decision.

“Let us exercise democracy, the more we have parties the more Kenyans will have the right to elect those that they want in leadership, “Ichagaki said.

He is rumored to be eyeing Murang’a gubernatorial seat.
