Kenya has signed a major healthcare partnership with the Government of Italy and GKSD Group that will see the construction of 15
new hospitals
The investment comes as Kenya seeks to address a shortage of hospital beds and expand access to specialized healthcare. The country currently has about 12 hospital beds per 10,000 people, compared with the World Health Organization (WHO) benchmark of 25 beds.
The new facilities are expected to significantly expand hospital capacity, bring specialized medical services closer to communities, and accelerate Kenya’s journey towards Universal Health Coverage.
The projects will be implemented under Italy’s Mattei Plan for Africa, with the partnership expected to strengthen Kenya’s healthcare infrastructure and improve access to specialized medical services.
The government says the initiative will play a key role in advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and improving healthcare services for communities across the country.
