Gachagua Urges Kalonzo to Mobilize 4 Million Votes for 2027 Presidential Bid

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to rally at least four million votes from his Ukambani strongholds to enhance his chances in the 2027 presidential race.

Speaking at a funeral in Mbooni, Makueni County, on Wednesday, Gachagua promised that the Mt Kenya region could deliver an additional 10 million votes to Musyoka, bringing the total to 14 million votes. He emphasized the importance of a political alliance between the two regions to create an unstoppable force in the upcoming elections.

“We have done the maths. For you to win the presidency, you must get fifty plus one. The people of Ukambani must now increase their votes in Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Taita Taveta, and other areas to between 3.5 to 4 million,” Gachagua said. “Once you get to that number, look for me. In our region, we want to have 10 million. You must ensure that young people register as voters.”

Gachagua stressed that the Mt Kenya region traditionally gravitates toward the winning team in any election, and he believes a partnership with Ukambani would guarantee a win. “If we work with you, you shall win,” he declared.

The former DP reminded the people of Ukambani that the Mt Kenya region has not forgotten the political debt owed to Kalonzo for his role in stabilizing the Mwai Kibaki presidency in 2007. “The only debt we have is that of Kalonzo and the people of Ukambani,” Gachagua said.

In a clear indication of a growing political alliance, Gachagua revealed that discussions were already underway with Kalonzo and other leaders such as Eugene Wamalwa. He also mentioned leaders from Maasailand as potential partners in building a formidable political force ahead of the 2027 elections.

“We want to end the culture of lies in this country,” Gachagua added.

On the issue of President William Ruto, Gachagua reiterated that the Mt Kenya region no longer owes Ruto any political debt, following his ouster from office as Deputy President. “We wanted to support Ruto for two terms, but the deal has been severed after he disrespected us,” Gachagua said. “We have paid the debt we owed him.”

Gachagua also criticized government officials for insulting Kalonzo, calling it an unfair display of arrogance. “It is not right for politicians to abuse leaders like Kalonzo, who has significant support across the country,” he said.

Addressing another pressing issue, Gachagua appealed to the government to stop demolitions targeting the poor in Nairobi, especially during the festive season. “Let us stop demolishing homes and leaving women and children homeless during this time of Christmas,” he urged.

The speech highlighted the emerging political alliance between Gachagua and Kalonzo, signaling the possibility of a major partnership in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
