Gachagua Vows Court of Appeal Battle After High Court Impeachment Ruling

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to escalate his legal battle to the Court of Appeal should the High Court uphold his impeachment.

A three-judge bench of the High Court in Nairobi is expected to deliver its ruling on June 8 at 11 a.m. on whether Parliament followed constitutional procedures when it impeached Gachagua in October 2024 on charges including gross misconduct and corruption.

” I will move to the Court of Appeal if High Court upholds my impeachment,’Gachagua said during a church service.

Gachagua and his legal team have challenged the process, arguing that it was rushed and failed to meet constitutional requirements. They further claim that public participation was inadequate and that he was denied a fair hearing, in violation of due process rights.

According to his camp, the impeachment proceedings were politically motivated and did not adhere to established legal standards governing the removal of a sitting Deputy President.

Should the ruling go against him, Gachagua has indicated that he will immediately move to the Court of Appeal to challenge the decision. He has also urged his supporters to remain calm and follow the law regardless of the outcome.

The case is being closely watched as it is expected to have significant political implications ahead of the 2027 General Election, potentially reshaping alliances and influencing Kenya’s broader political landscape.
