President William Ruto has hosted Gor Mahia FC at State House, Nairobi, to celebrate the club’s historic 22nd SportPesa Premier League title win.
The record champions secured the title after finishing the season with 68 points from 32 matches, earning qualification for the CAF Champions League and further cementing their dominance in Kenyan football.
During a colourful ceremony attended by players, technical staff, and officials, President Ruto praised the team for its outstanding performance and contribution to national pride.
He also announced financial support for the club, including KSh 10 million to aid their continental campaign and KSh 100,000 for each player and member of staff.
The club also benefited from a KSh 30 million sponsorship package alongside additional bonuses aimed at strengthening their preparations for continental competition.
Gor Mahia captain Philemon Otieno expressed gratitude to the government for its continued support of sports development and investment in infrastructure, saying such backing has boosted the growth of football in the country.
The celebration highlighted the growing link between sports and national identity, with fans taking to social media to applaud the milestone and the government’s recognition of local football achievements.
