Gachagua Widens Opposition Net as Wanjigi Joins Wamunyoro Consultations

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stepped up efforts to consolidate the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election by expanding consultations with influential political and business figures.

On Tuesday, Gachagua hosted businessman and politician Jimi Wanjigi at his Wamunyoro residence, describing the meeting as part of ongoing discussions on what he termed the “liberation” of the country and the formation of the “6th Administration.”

“The liberation cause of our Country and the formation of the 6th Administration is so critical that we must get views from all,” Gachagua said after the meeting.

The engagement signals Gachagua’s strategy of broadening his coalition beyond traditional political players by drawing on individuals with experience in governance, business and political mobilization.

He said Wanjigi’s experience in the formation of governments provided valuable insights as consultations continue to shape a united opposition platform capable of challenging President William Ruto’s administration in the next election.

The meeting also reinforces Wamunyoro’s growing role as a key venue for opposition strategy sessions, with Gachagua increasingly positioning himself as a central figure in efforts to unite diverse political interests under a common agenda.

While Gachagua did not disclose the specifics of the discussions or any political agreements reached, the continued series of consultations points to an intensifying push to build alliances as succession politics gathers momentum ahead of 2027.
