Nakuru police have arrested a suspect in connection with a stolen vehicle originally reported missing in Mombasa last week.

The arrest was made after a local cab driver, Joseph Mburu, spotted the vehicle in Nakuru County on Sunday, September 29, and reported it to the authorities.

According to police reports, Mburu, who was working his usual shift, had picked up a passenger at Imperial in Pipeline Estate and was heading to the city center.

Upon arriving at JB, Mburu noticed a white car driving at a slow pace, which seemed familiar.

After a few moments, he recognized the vehicle as the same one that had been posted in a WhatsApp group for cab drivers, after it was stolen in Mombasa.

Mburu confirmed his suspicions by asking his client to verify if it was the same car, which she did.

The passenger then took a photo of the vehicle and sent it to the group, where other drivers immediately confirmed that it matched the description of the stolen car.

Mburu, acting quickly, contacted the police while following the car from a safe distance to avoid detection.

He observed the driver making a series of stops, including at Bartmore, where the suspect briefly spoke with a passer-by before heading toward a car wash known as Auto Carwash.

The cab driver kept police informed of the vehicle’s movements, describing the suspect’s appearance and location. Thanks to Mburu’s detailed reporting, officers arrived on the scene and easily identified and arrested the driver.

The suspect, Edwin Ng’etich Kipkemoi, is now in custody at Mwariki Police Station and is awaiting transfer to Mombasa, where the vehicle’s owner, Victoria Mumbua, reported it stolen.

Mumbua, also a cab driver, had gone missing the previous Friday, sparking concerns and a search for her stolen vehicle. The police are continuing their investigations into the case.
