IEBC temporarily suspends online voter services amid ICT system upgrade

By James Kamau

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has temporarily suspended some of its online voter services as it undertakes a routine upgrade of its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) systems.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, the Commission said the exercise is aimed at enhancing the reliability, security and performance of its digital services.

As a result, members of the public will temporarily be unable to access the online voter search platform available through the Commission’s voter verification portal. Services relating to voter transfers and changes of voter particulars have also been affected during the maintenance period.

“The Commission wishes to inform stakeholders and members of the public that we are currently undertaking a routine upgrade of our ICT systems to enhance reliability, security and performance of our services,” the notice stated.

However, the IEBC assured Kenyans that the ongoing voter registration exercise has not been interrupted.

The temporary suspension of some online services comes as the Commission seeks to strengthen its digital infrastructure and improve service delivery to voters.

The electoral body said it will communicate once the system upgrade is complete and all affected services have been restored.
