IEBC Voter Registration 2026: How to Register Ahead of 2027 Election

Kenyans who have attained the age of 18 and meet the requirements can register as voters through the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The IEBC has resumed Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) following the conclusion of the 2026 Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise. The Commission’s current website is urging eligible Kenyans to register early ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Who can register as a voter in Kenya?

To register, you must:

• Be a Kenyan citizen.
• Be 18 years or older.
• Have a valid National Identity Card or Kenyan passport.

Where can you register?

IEBC says eligible Kenyans can register at designated registration centres, including IEBC Constituency Offices and Huduma Centres. The Commission has registration centres across the country.

The IEBC has also clarified that eligible Kenyans do not necessarily have to travel to their home county to register. During the enhanced registration exercise, open kits allowed citizens to register from different registration centres and choose their preferred polling centre.

How to register as a voter

The registration process requires an eligible Kenyan to appear in person before an IEBC registration officer with the required identification document.

The officer captures the applicant’s biometric and personal information before completing the registration process.

Unlike voter verification, new voter registration cannot simply be completed online. Applicants are required to physically appear before a registration officer.

How to check if you are already registered

Kenyans who are unsure whether they are registered can use the IEBC’s Voter Verification Portal.

The portal asks users to enter their ID or passport number and year of birth to check their voter details.

What if you want to change your polling station?

Registered voters seeking to transfer their registration to another electoral area are required to present themselves at the IEBC Constituency Office in the area where they wish to transfer.

IEBC has stated that the transfer process involves fresh biometric verification to confirm that the request has been made by the voter.

Voters who want to correct or update their registration details should visit the IEBC Constituency Office where they are currently registered.

Why register early?

The 2027 General Election is scheduled for August 10, 2027, according to the IEBC.

IEBC has urged eligible Kenyans to register early as part of preparations for the next General Election.

Kenyans should use official IEBC channels to confirm registration requirements, registration locations and any deadlines announced by the Commission.
