Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni has said the party is plotting revival in the Mount Kenya region.

Kioni said this on Thursday after he held a meeting with Jubilee leadership from Nyeri county, where he announced the party plans to hold people’s baraza meetings.

Taking to his social media page, Kioni said that the leaders affirmed their loyalty and commitment to Azimio.

“Earlier this evening, we held a meeting with Nyeri county Jubilee Party leaders who affirmed their loyalty and commitment to Azimio,” he said, adding that the leaders were delighted and ready for the regions People’s Baraza meetings.

Former Kiambu Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu on his social media page said that he wasn’t invited to the meeting.

“Jubilee Party SG comes to Nyeri Town to meet Jubilee Leaders from Nyeri County, & he doesn’t even have the courtesy to invite,” he said.

Kioni’s move to hold a meeting with Nyeri Jubilee leaders comes a few days after President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hosted Jubilee leaders at the State house.

The meeting was attended by several key members of the party, including Kanini Kega and Sabina Chege.

Also present were David Kiaraho (Ol Kalou), Irene Njoki (Bahati), Zachary Kwenya (Kinangop), Shadrack Mwiti (South Imenti), Mark Mwenje (Embakasi West), Amos Mwago (Starehe), Daniel Karitho (Igembe Central), Stanley Muthama (Lamu West) and Joseph Githuku (Lamu).

Kioni during a past interview with the media said that the party performed poorly in the last election due to constant rigging and their agents being mistreated.

EALA MP Kega last year said that he will foster the region’s unity behind the DP Gachagua but within his political formation – Jubilee Party that is led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kega did not, however, confirm or deny reports of the Jubilee Party planning to work with Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza.

A Jubilee MP who sought anonymity has told the Star that the party met with Ruto and Gachagua for the sake of development in their constituencies.

He said that they discussed various ways they can work with the government for the sake of development.

“If you can’t beat them, join them and this is exactly what we did for the sake of our electorates,” MP said.

He further said “fresh, vibrant, youthful and persuasive” leaders will be crucial in undertaking mobilisation meetings across the Central Kenya region, where the party’s popularity appears to be fading away in recent months.

He revealed that the party will traverse the region reaching out to their former party leaders and especially those who failed to clinch seats in the last election.

A section of Jubilee leaders in Mount Kenya has already endorsed Gachagua as the region’s kingpin.

Although they haven’t denounced the party, political pundits believe that they will be working with the government.
