Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has framed the Magarini by-election as a crucial test of Kenya’s commitment to credible and transparent elections, insisting that voters must be allowed to determine their next MP without interference.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Kalonzo said the people of Magarini had already demonstrated confidence in Wiper candidate Stanley Karisa Kenga, arguing that their choice reflects a desire for stability, development, and accountable leadership.
He warned that alleged attempts to manipulate the process—whether through intimidation, vote tampering, or procedural irregularities—risk undermining public faith in democratic institutions.
“This by-election is bigger than party politics. It is about safeguarding the integrity of our democracy,” Kalonzo said. “The people of Magarini know the future they want, and their trust in Stanley Karisa Kenga is firm. Any attempt to distort that choice is an attack on the people themselves.”
Kalonzo urged security agencies and the electoral commission to ensure a transparent process, saying Kenyans are increasingly demanding elections that reflect the true will of the people.
He also called on Wiper supporters to maintain peace while remaining alert to any signs of interference.
“Let us stay vigilant, peaceful, and united as we defend the voice and vote of Magarini,” he said.
The by-election has drawn significant national interest, with political parties viewing it as a barometer of public sentiment ahead of the 2027 polls. For Kalonzo, the contest has become a platform to reinforce his long-standing message on justice, fairness, and the protection of democratic space.
