Kenya, Egypt Deepen Digital Ties Through New ICT Partnership

By James Kamau

Kenya and Egypt have taken a major step towards strengthening cooperation in the technology sector following a meeting between Kenya’s ICT leadership and Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, H.E. Eng. Raafat Hendy, in Geneva.

During the meeting, the two countries agreed to move the Kenya-Egypt Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) from policy to implementation.

A joint technical team has been established and is expected to begin work immediately before convening in Nairobi within the next 45 days to advance the partnership.

A key area of cooperation will be digital skills development. Egypt has agreed to share its Digital Egypt training curriculum with Kenya to help equip young people with practical and market-ready digital skills.

The training programmes will be rolled out through digital hubs in every ward as well as the government’s Jitume centres, expanding opportunities for young people seeking careers in technology and the digital economy.

“Skilling comes first. Egypt is sharing its Digital Egypt training curricula and we will roll them out to our young people through the digital hubs in every ward and our Jitume centres,” the Kenyan delegation said after the meeting.

The agreement marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s efforts to build a digitally skilled workforce and deepen international partnerships that support innovation, technology transfer and youth empowerment.
