The Kenya Meteorological Department has listed Central and Rift Valley among five regions expected to receive rains this weekend.
In a weather advisory, the department said several counties in the Western region, Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria basin are likely to experience rainfall over the next few days.
Counties expected to receive rains include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira and Trans Nzoia. Others are Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.
According to Kenya Met, most of the rainfall in these counties is expected in the afternoon and will likely be accompanied by thunderstorms.
The afternoon downpours are expected to occur after light morning showers and sunny intervals during mid-morning. The department also noted that some areas could experience rainfall at night.
A similar weather pattern is expected in Central Highlands counties including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi.
Residents in these counties have been advised to prepare for heavy rains from Friday to Saturday, with the rainfall expected to reduce during the remaining days of the forecast period.
The weather department also predicted light rains in the South-eastern lowlands covering Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County.
At the same time, Kenya Met warned residents in Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi and Nairobi to prepare for cold night temperatures.
According to the department, temperatures in these areas could drop to as low as 9°C before rising slightly to about 11°C towards the end of the forecast period.
Meanwhile, residents in the North Eastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo have been warned to expect high daytime temperatures of up to 38°C over the next five days.
