Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has formally written to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) seeking access to key records of the Jubilee Party in a move that underscores growing concerns over the party’s leadership and governance.

In a letter dated March 18, 2026, Wambugu invoked Article 35 of the Constitution and the Access to Information Act, 2016, requesting certified details of the party’s current leadership structure, including all recognized officials, their specific roles, and the dates they assumed office.

He also asked for official documents filed with the registrar over the last 12 months, including resolutions, statutory returns, and notices submitted on behalf of the party.

In the request, Wambugu further sought records relating to any leadership changes, internal governance decisions, disputes within the party, and agreements entered into with other political parties.

He noted that access to such information is critical in promoting transparency, accountability, and public confidence in political party operations, adding that the law requires public institutions to respond within stipulated timelines or provide written reasons for any refusal.

He also requested that the information be provided in electronic format and indicated his willingness to meet any applicable administrative costs.

The latest move follows an earlier letter by Wambugu to former President and Jubilee Party leader Uhuru Kenyatta, in which he raised concerns over the party’s direction and leadership decisions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In that correspondence, he questioned the process through which key decisions were being made within the party, including emerging reports on potential presidential flagbearers and possible political alignments, saying members deserved clarity on the party’s future.

Wambugu’s latest action now shifts the matter to a formal institutional level, placing the registrar at the center of efforts to clarify Jubilee’s official status and leadership structure.

The development comes at a time when the party is experiencing heightened internal activity, with leaders and aspirants repositioning themselves in preparation for the next general election.
