Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has raised fresh concerns over a possible political arrangement that could shape competition in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 elections, even as he moves to seek official records on the leadership of the Jubilee Party.
In a statement, Wambugu said aspirants are increasingly uneasy about what he described as a potential “zoning” agreement that could grant certain political figures undue advantage at the local level.
“As aspirants we are concerned there could be an agreement with Jofri allowing him a free hand in Mt Kenya locally; that is zoning, in exchange for a promise he will ‘return hand’ nationally. That there isn’t is an assurance we need to keep hearing from JP party leadership,” Wambugu stated.
He warned that such an arrangement, if it exists, would undermine fair political competition and limit opportunities for other aspirants in the region.
At the same time, Wambugu had earlier written to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) seeking access to official records of the Jubilee Party amid growing concerns over its leadership and governance.

In a letter dated March 18, 2026, the former legislator invoked Article 35 of the Constitution and the Access to Information Act, requesting certified details on the party’s current leadership structure, including recognized officials, their roles, and when they assumed office.
He also sought copies of resolutions, notices, and statutory filings submitted to the registrar over the past 12 months, particularly those relating to leadership changes, internal decisions, disputes, and any agreements with other political parties.
The move follows an earlier letter by Wambugu to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, in which he questioned the party’s direction and decision-making processes ahead of the next General Election.
Wambugu said the information request is aimed at promoting transparency and accountability within the party, adding that the law requires a timely response or written reasons in case of any refusal.
