Kwale Deputy Governor Fatuma Achani has settled on Samburu Chengoni Ward Rep Chirema Kombo as her running mate for the governor’s seat race.
Achani who is expected to vie on Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, said she had reached the decision after wide consultations with clergy, community leaders as well as outgoing Governor Salim Mvurya.
“We had a day-long process by opinion leaders from Kinango, Matuga, Lungalunga and Msambweni sub-counties and they proposed Kombo for the position,” she said.
Kombo has served as Ward Rep for two terms. Reacting to the nomination, Kombo expressed confidence that they will deliver victory in the election.
“I sincerely thank the community representatives who nominated me for this position, Achani and Governor Mvurya, I pledge to work with you well until we get this seat,” he said.
Kombo comes from the Duruma sub-group which is the second largest community in Kwale while Achani is Digo.
Agriculture Principal Secretary Hamadi Boga, a Digo also running, has settled on a Duruma running-mate Safina Kwekwe.
